OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Closing out the weekend in Oskaloosa, Iowa for their final two matches of the William Penn Tournament, the Clarke University women's volleyball team dropped both of their matches first in a 3-0 loss to Briar Cliff University then a four-set loss to Dordt University on Saturday afternoon.
Briar Cliff's sweep had each set score become closer as the match went on, earning a 25-11 win in the first, a 25-18 win in the second, then winning the match in the final set by the minimum at 25-23 then the Pride would go on to take the second set against Dordt 26-24 after dropping the opener 25-19, but then the Defenders earned a 25-12 third set win, then clinched the match 25-17 in the fourth.
CU had struggles offensively throughout the day with a team hitting percentage in six of the seven sets played under .100 and 47 attacking errors on 199 swings over both matches.
Junior Keely Colyer carried her momentum of a strong final match the night prior to lead the Pride in kills against the Chargers with 12 kills on 28 swings for a .179 hitting percentage a day after recording her first career triple-double as Kortney Harms also followed up her Friday triple-double with a team-high 16 assists and nine kills with a strong .429 hitting percentage.
In Clarke's tournament finale against Dordt, Colyer and Harms once again led the team in kills but in a less efficient manner as the two combined for 13 kills and also 11 errors with Colyer tying Emma Shea-Wopinek for a team high with eight digs in the match while Ariana Rodriguez and Jayden Knox each produced six digs for Knox's day total finishing at 16 digs after 10 against Briar Cliff.
Pride women's volleyball will return home to the Kehl Center for their next match when they host their first Heart of America Athletic Conference match of the season when they welcome Missouri Valley College to Dubuque on Sept. 6 for a 3:00 p.m. CT scheduled start.
