Bobcats slow Pride offense in CU 3-0 road loss
PERU, Neb. - In a quick road trip in the middle of a late-season homestand, the Clarke University women's volleyball team struggled to find momentum in a 3-0 loss at Peru State College on Saturday afternoon.
Finishing with a negative team hitting percentage in the match, the Pride were in the negatives in both the 25-9 first set and a 25-14 third set where the second set was tighter at a 25-21 advantage for the Bobcats behind a mid-set 8-3 run to go from a 7-7 tie to a 15-10 lead that they wouldn't look back from.
PSC's more efficient offensive performance was led by the lone player in the entire match to produce double digit kills in Kalolaine Pasikala who had 10 on the day with only one error on her 17 swings to produce a .529 hitting percentage in front of six kills from Shealie Wiebers and a 5-for-10 match from Kennedy Miller.
Clarke's leaders in kills came from the right side duo of Keely Colyer and Kortney Harms with Colyer producing eight kills and Harms had six but both would combine for 15 total attacking errors on 42 combined attempts, each swinging 21 times on a ball.
Freshman setter Jaxcyn Berntgen led the Pride with 11 assists, junior libero Jayden Knox had a match-high 12 digs on the day, and freshman Bri Sanchez had the best hitting percentage on the team outside of Berntgen's 1-for-2 mark.
Pride women's volleyball will return home for a two-match week in the Kehl Center starting with their second matchup of the season against William Penn University on Tuesday, Oct. 14 for a scheduled 6:00 p.m. CT start against the Statesmen.
