Pride close weekend with three-set loss at Benedictine
ATCHISON, Kan. - Wrapping up their second road weekend in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Clarke University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. on Saturday.
The Pride would face offensive struggles in two of the three sets, combining for just seven kills on 49 attempts in the first and third set combined to lose those sets 25-7 and 25-14 and in a second set where they were stronger on the attack, out-killing BC 16-14, the Ravens would make up for that disparity in points with only one attack error to six for CU and four service aces to earn a second set 25-19 win.
Clarke's usual suspects in juniors Kortney Harms and Keely Colyer led the team in the major stat categories with Harms finishing at eight kills, nine assists, and nine digs, while Colyer had a season-high tying 13 digs to lead the team while also having nine assists then having six kills behind the eight from Harms as both Colyer and Harms finished with a hitting percentage over .200.
For the home team, Benedictine had a pair on the attack with more kills than anyone in the CU lineup, first a 12-for-16 match from Barbara Terra with only one error for a .688 hitting percentage with Lucy Drexel adding nine kills on 24 swings, also with only one error to produce a .333 hitting percentage.
Pride women's volleyball will close out this four-match road stretch with a Tuesday evening matchup in Lamoni, Iowa on Sept. 30 at Graceland University for a scheduled 7:00 p.m. CT first serve.
