Pride battle in the third set but fall to Grand View
DES MOINES, Iowa - Continuing a three-match road stretch in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Clarke University women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Grand View University 3-0 in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday night.
The Vikings showed their prowess early on with strong 25-13 and 25-11 set wins in the first and second but the Pride would be able to bounce back after a 5-0 start for GVU in the third set to pull within a point at 8-7 but never get any closer than that to fall by a final set score of 25-21 for the Grand View match win.
That third set had a combination of Clarke finishing with their best set hitting percentage and the Vikings having their lowest hitting percentage but the home team would still finish with a .430 hitting percentage as a team led by a 15-kill .407 hitting percentage night from Mariana de Carvalho as Juliana Neves led the match with 27 assists and Maiah Kalima-Izumi had a match-high 15 digs for GVU.
For CU, Kortney Harms led the team with seven kills with only one attacking error for a .500 hitting percentage match while tying for the team lead with eight assists and adding two digs and a block assist while Keely Colyer and Amelia Driver finished with matching kill totals of five while Colyer led the team in digs with five and added eight assists as well.
Pride women's volleyball will return home for a pair of matches this weekend at the Kehl Center first when they host MidAmerica Nazarene University on Friday night with a scheduled first serve of 6:00 p.m. CT.
