Pride fall to Owls in straight sets on the road

FULTON, Mo. - In their first Heart of America Athletic Conference road trip, the Clarke University women's volleyball team was unable to pick up their first conference victory in a 3-0 loss to William Woods University in the first matchup between the two teams as conference foes.

Playing competitive sets in the first and second to 25-19 and 25-20 wins for the Owls, the third set was more of a runaway with WWU scoring the final seven points of the set to close out the match at a 25-11 score.

Clarke errors created almost two-thirds of the points scored by William Woods as the Pride produced 22 attacking errors, eight service errors, and four block errors as well as WWU producing 14 aces, which also go down as CU reception errors as the Owls only totaled 26 of those such points going back to Clarke.

The leading attacker in the match was WWU's Ivi Marcolino who had 10 kills on 23 attempts with a .304 hitting percentage and one dig shy of a double-double with Amelia Driver leading the Pride in kills with seven but finished in the negative with her hitting percentage as she also finished with eight errors.

Sophomore setter Jenna Lewis led CU with 12 assists while junior libero Jayden Knox had a match-high 15 digs for her ninth match with 10 or more digs this season in 13 matches.

Clarke women's volleyball will be on the road for one more match before returning home as they'll travel to Des Moines, Iowa to face Grand View University on Tuesday, Sept. 16 for a scheduled 7:00 p.m. CT first serve between the Pride and Vikings.
