Pride and Bruins play to Saturday night scoreless draw

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Following a strong home debut to their 2025 season, the No. 23 Clarke University men's soccer team produced their second shutout in as many games after a 0-0 draw against Bellevue University on Saturday night at Burrows Field.

The Pride remain undefeated through their first four games after their second draw to start the year with goalkeeper Lucas Fontana earning his second shutout in three days by making four saves on the day against the Bellevue attack that was fairly limited by another strong back line performance from Nearco Zamorano, Carles Aparisi, Daniel Valverde, and Xzavier Campa with Juan Pablo Cortes filling in at center back for Zamorano for a stretch and playing a strong holding midfield role.

CU took significantly more shots than the Bruins with a final game total of 17-9 in favor of the Pride with nine of those 17 shots going on goal but BU goalie Kaden Simpson standing tall to the task, making every save he needed to preserve his own shutout on the day.

Clarke's shots primarily came from the trio of Alfonso Gonzalez, Hector Medrano, and William Arana with both Gonzalez and Medrano taking four with a combined five on goal then Arana taking three shots and two on goal.

Pride men's soccer will hit the road for their first Heart of America Athletic Conference game of the 2025 season when they travel to Park University on Saturday, Sept. 6 for a scheduled 2:30 p.m. CT start in Parkville, Mo. against the Pirates.
