DUBUQUE, Iowa - Nearing the home stretch of their 2025 regular season, the Clarke University men's soccer team battled chilly and breezy conditions at Burrows Field on their way to a 2-2 draw against Graceland University on Tuesday night.
The theme of Tuesday's game was no lead being safe for very long as the Yellowjackets got the first strike on the board when Mario Salinas gave GU a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, but that lead would only last about 40 seconds before CU's Javi Munoz scored his fifth goal of the season off of a cross from Jose Luis Reyes to tie the game at 1-1, where it would hold until the halftime break.
About 90 seconds into the second half, the Pride earned a free kick near the top of the 18-yard box for Miguel Perezagua to step to the ball for Clarke and curl a left-footed shot over the Graceland wall and under the cross bar near the right upper-90 to give Clarke their first lead of the game at 2-1.
That would also be a lead that wouldn't last very long, when GU's Alex Iossa stole the ball from the Pride back line to give himself a breakaway on Lucas Fontana to score their equalizer about a minute and a half after Clarke took their first and only lead of the game.
Fontana would make six saves on the day, making two more saves than his Yellowjackets' counterpart Yuta Hirano, who made four saves on the day where the two teams combined for 27 total shots on the day.
Clarke men's soccer will take their final road trip of the regular season when they go to Baldwin City, Kan. to face Baker for a scheduled 3:30 p.m. CT kickoff between the Pride and Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 25.
