Pride dominate Senior Day matchup against Missouri Valley
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Playing their second home game of the season and hosting an earlier than typical Senior Day, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team earned their most resounding win of the 2026 season in a 19-0 final over Missouri Valley College on Saturday afternoon.
At halftime of Saturday's game, the Pride recognized their five playing seniors in Reese Rubino, Jack Fritz, Hector Manzano-Luciano, Jahvon Anderson, and Josh Pote as well as student assistant Tanner Gell for their contributions to the Clarke men's lacrosse program during their final season at CU.
To the game action, the home team got off to a quick start with a goal less than 20 seconds into the first quarter when Matt Warmowski scored his first of two goals assisted from Xavier Howard in the opening frame as Howard and Tyler Fleming both scored unassisted goals in the first 15 minutes to help CU lead 4-0 after one.
Over the second and third period, the Pride scored five and seven goals respectively to go up 16-0 before a light three-goal fourth period finished the game at the eventual 19-0 deficit thanks to a lot of possession time created by Pote's 19-for-20 record on the faceoff dot and Fritz making seven saves in net to preserve the shutout.
Howard and Fleming led the point scoring for Clarke with Howard finishing at three goals and seven assists while Fleming scored a game-high six goals as the other 10 goals came by way of three from Aiden Gudenkauf, two apiece from Warmowski and Ashani Harvey, then a goal apiece by Rubino, Anderson, and Jackson Michaels with Michaels finishing at three assists, Anderson adding two assists, then Kaden Pemberton and Logan Dedrick both adding an assist on the game.
Dedrick led the game with eight ground balls collected and five caused turnovers just ahead on ground balls of Pote's seven, six from Theo Deberghes, and five from Fleming while the caused turnovers led a group of poles that saw Ethan Cornett add four while Pemberton added two to round out the defensive unit's CTs.
Clarke men's lacrosse will take a mid-week road trip to continue Heart of America Athletic Conference play at St. Ambrose University for an Apr. 1 matchup in Davenport, Iowa slated to start at 6:00 p.m. CT.
