Pride bowling compete in unique format of Five Seasons Classic to start November
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Getting back to action to start the month of November, the Clarke University bowling team competed to a seventh place men's finish and an 11th place finish on the women's side of the Five Seasons Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
Not the standard collegiate bowling format took place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as Saturday's individual games portion was typical to what the teams are used to, but they would also set up a seeding system for Sunday's baker game format to be head-to-head for 10 matchups as opposed to the 15 or 16 baker games to add to the total pin count for the tournament.
In those 10 head-to-head games for each team, the Pride men would go 5-5, tied with three other teams but head by far the highest pin count at 8,684 as the tiebreaker for teams with the same record at the end of Sunday's action where the women also finished 5-5 with 7,221 pins to end up at the bottom of their four-way tie between eighth place and 11th place.
On Saturday, CU's individual games saw freshman Austin McFarland on the men's team earn a 10th place individual finish with 1,050 total pins over five games for a 210 average, posting four of his five games over 200 pins with his best coming in game two with a 234 game.
The Pride women's best individual performance came from sophomore Alexa McDaniel as the Eldridge, Iowa natvie finished in 43rd place with a five-game total pin count of 851 to average 170.2 pins as her best game also came in her second with a 203 in game two.
Clarke's remaining men's team included a 200.4 average over five games for Camryn Stefanini to finish in 22nd place, Mason Trapp produced a 196.4 five-game average, Zach Reuter bowled five games to a 187 average for the JV team, Harley Redding bowled five games to a 179.8 average, Mason McElvany had a five-game average of 173, AJ Juliano produced a 157.4 average in five games, Joey Simpson bowled five games to a 155.6 average, Bryce Vandewostine produced a 144.6 average in five games, then Andrew Sass had a three-game average of 173 and Cole Nietert bowled two games to a 179.5 average.
On the women's side, Maddy Ardiaz had a five-game average of 167, Emily Larson's five games finished at an average of 162.6, Jennifer Hayakawa produced an average of 152.6 over five games, Zoie Swanson bowled three games to a 149.67 average, and both Devin Peterson and Anna Sickels bowled a game each with Peterson producing a 152 and Sickels bowling a 116.
