Pride run away with rematch win over Mount Mercy
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Facing off against Mount Mercy University for the second time in just a 14-day span, the Clarke University women's basketball team fared much better in their road matchup against the Mustangs over the home game in a comfortable 92-54 win in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Wednesday night.
The Pride dominated both the second and fourth quarters on their way to the 38-point win, starting with an impressive 24-6 margin in the second quarter where CU shot 10-for-18 (55.6%) in the period compared to just a 2-for-15 (13.3%) 10 minutes from the home team as Mount Mercy also turned the ball over seven times in the frame with Clarke also grabbing 11 defensive rebounds on MMU's 13 misses, limited their second chance opportunities.
Entering and exiting the third quarter with a 20-point lead, Clarke played a similarly strong defensive fourth quarter, where the Mustangs shot 1-of-10 (10%) from three point range to an 11-point fourth with the Pride scoring their most point in any quarter in the game at 29 led by a strong bench productive quarter behind Abby Hollis scoring all nine of her points in her eight minutes on the floor with Jessica Morgan adding six, two points apiece from Jenna Scheller, Breckan Stewart, and Karley Hawkins while starters Hailey Walters and Camdyn Kay also added two along with Zoe Kennedy producing four of her game-high 22 points in the final frame.
Walters also added 20 points behind Kennedy's 22 with Kay also finishing in double figures at 15 point with Morgan and Scheller both adding eight off the bench along with the nine from Hollis, four from Stewart, four from Josie Potts, and the two from Hawkins as Kennedy finished with 11 points for a double-double as she also put up four assists and a steal in 37 minutes.
The Pride finished the game with their highest team shooting percentage of the season at 37-for-73 (50.7%) from the field while knocking down their third-most three pointers in a game this season at 11 led by the three knocked down by both Hollis and Walters while Kennedy and Morgan both hit two and Kay knocked down her lone three pointer in the crucial 24-6 second quarter advantage.
Clarke women's basketball will finish up their 2025-26 regular season on the road once more when they travel to Canton, Mo. for a rematch against Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a scheduled 2:00 p.m. CT opening tip between the Pride and Wildcats.
