Taylor Haase's 30-point game propels her to first career Heart Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second time in three weeks, a Clarke University women's basketball player has been selected as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week as sophomore forward Taylor Haase received the honor on Monday afternoon.
Haase, a native of Freedom, Wis., had scoring totals of 30 and nine last week as the 30-point performance against Bethel University (Ind.) was a career-high for Haase. In that game, Haase went 10-of-16 from the floor and 10-of-15 from the free throw line while adding seven rebounds and a blocked shot in the game.
Her previous career-high came earlier this season when she scored 16 points at Menlo College on 7-of-10 shooting. Maybe most impressively, Haase's 30 points came in just 22 minutes of action on the floor off the bench as the Pride's usual first forward sub.
Haase also provided nine points and three rebounds in the Pride's defeat to No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan last Friday as the team's second-leading scorer.
This weekly honor for Haase is the first of her career and as previously mentioned, the second for the Pride on the season after Emma Kelchen earned the honor on Nov. 1, the first week players of the week were decided for basketball this season.
The Heart Player of the Week honor has now become a family tradition in the Haase household as Taylor joins her sister Makenna as members of the Pride to earn the recognition after Makenna did so five times in her career as Makenna earned her first career Player of the Week almost three years ago this week on Nov. 11, 2018.
Clarke women's basketball has two games scheduled for this week starting with a road game against Judson University tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. CT in Elgin, Ill. before returning to the Kehl Center to host University of St. Francis on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
