Kelchen's opening week success leads to Heart Player of the Week selection
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In a three-game week that saw the Clarke University women's basketball team go 2-1, senior forward/center Emma Kelchen was selected as the Heart of America Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Heart officials announced Monday afternoon.
Kelchen scored double figures in all three games the Pride played last week as she scored over 20 points in the two wins for CU with 22 points against Cardinal Stritch and 25 against No. 13 Dakota State. She added a 12-point performance on Saturday in Clarke's loss to No. 8 Wayland Baptist as she was limited to only seven shot attempts in the game due to dealing with foul trouble in the second half.
The Bellevue, Iowa native was also efficient from the field over the three games going a total of 18-for-28 (64.3%) from the field while shooting over 50-percent in each game individually. Kelchen added five or more rebounds in each game as well to average 7.0 rebounds per game over the trio of contests.
Kelchen and the Pride will head out to the west coast for a regular season game and exhibition this week as they will face Menlo College on Wednesday night followed by their exhibition matchup against Stanford University on Saturday afternoon.
