Pride suffer pair of defeats at No. 18 Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. - Getting back to action for the first time in 10 days due to some weather related rescheduling, the Clarke University softball team was unable to pull out a win in their road doubleheader against Central Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon in Fayette, Mo. to 9-1 and 6-1 final scores.

Scoring a lone run in each game, the Pride scored late in game one in an attempt to prevent the five-inning run rule defeat as they got a RBI single from Kynadee Harris to cap a 2-for-2 game and score Oakleigh Harman, but CU left Harris stranded at first to end the game in that fifth inning.

Game two's run came in the top of the first for the road team to take an early 1-0 lead on the Eagles thanks to a Lauren Hefel sacrifice fly, but CMU answered with a pair in the bottom of the first and never looked back with two more two-run innings in both the fourth and sixth to add some cushion for pitcher Hailey Cotter to finish off a complete game three-hitter.

CU was only able to manage three hits in each game with Harman producing the third hit in game one behind the two from Harris while Kaylie Holtam, Olivia Sikora, and Sydney Wilson each had a hit in game two.

Clarke softball will have a quick turnaround on the rare mid-week road trip when they take on Missouri Valley College on Wednesday afternoon with another doubleheader slated to start at 2:00 p.m. CT in Marshall, Mo.
