DUBUQUE, Iowa - For the final time in the 2025 season, the Clarke University softball team hosted games on their home field as they were unable to pull out one last win on Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon in 3-0 and 12-1 losses to Grand View University.
In the break between games, the Pride honored their two-person senior class of Sydney Haas and Alicia Casas as the pair played in their final home games of the CU softball career as both played contributing roles int he doubleheader with Haas getting the start in left field for both games and going a combined 1-for-4 and Casas starting behind the plate in game two, going 1-for-1 with a walk and a double in the finale.
Unfortunately for the CU offense, they didn't capitalize on their offensive opportunities combining for just the one run and nine hits over the 12 total innings of action with Lauren Hefel producing a two-hit game in the opener and Harlee Makue-Vasconcellos adding a two-hit game and the lone RBI on the day in the finale.
The game one 3-0 win for the Vikings saw the visiting team score two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth off of Clarke starter Meredith Gatto who would take the loss despite a solid start for the sophomore as she only allowed five hits and struck out four GVU batters but also walked three batters.
Grand View took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two then produced three more in the top of the third before an eight-run top of the fifth allowed the Vikings to pull away to earn a run rule victory in five innings to close out the doubleheader sweep.
Clarke softball will close out the 2025 regular season with a makeup doubleheader on the road against Graceland University when they take on the Yellowjackets for the last set of the season with a 2:00 p.m. CT scheduled first pitch of game one in Lamoni, Iowa.
