Pride bats held in check in pair of defeats at Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. - Facing a tough Heart opponent on the road for the second-straight day, the Clarke University softball team dropped their two games on Thursday at Culver-Stockton College by final scores of 10-0 and 10-2.

Both games ended after five innings due to the run rule as CU's offensive efforts were held to eight hits over the 10 total innings of the two games with only two hits in the opener and six hits in their two-run game two.

On the opposite side of the field, any time but one instance when the Wildcats plated runs in an inning, they scored multiple runs with two five-run innings, a four-run inning, a three-run inning, and a two-run innings.

Errors hindered the Pride's defensive efforts as only one of the 10 runs in the first game was earned with half of the runs in the second game coming as unearned tallies.

Lindsey Herrmann and Daija Bates both produced two-hit games in game two with Herrmann also driving in a run from the leadoff spot for CU.

Clarke softball will return home for back-to-back doubleheaders at Veterans Park this Saturday and Sunday when they host Baker University and Benedictine College with both days' games scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT.
