Ruegseggar ties for first as the Pride finish fourth at Loras Invite
DUBUQUE, Iowa - After the first day of the two-day scheduled Loras Invite was canceled due to weather, the Clarke University men's golf team put together a strong 18 holes on Tuesday to finish fourth at the Meadows Country Club.
Led by a 73 (+1) from Carter Ruegseggar that tied for first, the Pride put up a 313 (+25) that was a single shot behind fellow Dubuque schools University of Dubuque and Loras College who both carded team scores of 312 (+24) to tie for second with Luther College winning the event at 302 (+14).
Ruegseggar's first place tie ended up in playoff hole between he and Louis Anthony of Coe College as Anthony birdied the playoff hole to break the tie as Ruegseggar would end up as the runner-up.
Behind Ruegseggar's 73, both Kade Salemi and Nick Stroschein ended with matching scores of 78 (+6), with Ben Baker's 84 (+12) rounding out the team score of 313 and Alex McLeland carding an 87 (+15) to close out the CU top five.
The second unit for Clarke saw Jared Martinson scoring an 82 (+10) to lead that squad followed by an 88 (+16) from Jesse Frye, an 89 (+17) from Mitchel Coffey, a 92 (+20) from Francis Resurreccion, and a 100 (+28) from Vincent Forseth. Alex Beard competed as an individual for the Pride to finish with a 94 (+22) in his 18 holes.
Clarke men's golf will compete in one more regular season event this Thursday at the Mount Mercy Invite at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa before the team will compete in the Heart Championships next week.
