Pride bowling opens up 2023-24 season at Midwest Collegiate Championships
WAUWATOSA, Wis. - Getting back to the lanes for the first time of the 2023-24 season, the Clarke University bowling teams had middle of the pack finishes at the Midwest Collegiate Championships at Bowlero Wauwatosa over the weekend.
The Pride women finished at 31st as a team with the men earning a tie right in the middle of the 48-team field at 24th to open their season with strong individual performances.
Those individual performances came from Emma Clancy on the women's side and Shane Jordan on the men's side as Clancy finished the women's individual side at 33rd out of 270 total bowlers with 1,134 total pins for a 189 pins per game average over six games and Jordan finished in 65th out of 377 total bowlers at 1,175 for a 195.83 pins per game average over six games.
Jordan was the only member of the Pride men to bowl all six games of the individual portion of the event as consistency was his method of success at a best score of 225 and only one score lower than 190 at 179 while Clancy was one of three members on the women's side to bowl in all six games as Clancy had the highest game of any CU bowler, male or female, at a 253 in her second game and also had two other games of 203 to tie for the most games over 200 out of all of the Pride.
The other Clarke bowlers to score in all six games on the women's side were Kassidy Gerken and Jennifer Hayakawa as they finished in 105th and 100th respectively with Hayakawa finishing at 960 total pins for a 160 average and Gerken had 932 pins for a 155.33 average.
Not bowling in all six games but being the third member of the Pride to score over 1,000 pins was Tanner Webb on the men's side as he returned to the CU lineup in strong fashion with 1,008 pins and a 201.6 average over five games as he was the other bowler for CU to have three games of 200 or more with a 231, 225 and 215 in games one, three, and six. Mannix Amos, Jordan Gorgas, and Zach Reuter all had averages for the men over 190 led by a 199.50 from Gorgas in just four games, a 197 from Amos in four games, and a 192 from Reuter in three games.
Clarke's men's lineup was rounded out by Adante Jones scoring a 174.33 three-game average, Justin Fichter finishing at a 164 three-game average, and a 177.5 two-game average from Harley Redding as Clarke scored 3,010 pins over 16 Baker games with their best Baker scoring coming in their second game at a 232.
The Pride's women saw Stephanie Thompson, Zoe Schultz, and Sidney Pawski compete in at least three games during the individual portion of the tournament as Thompson averaged a 157.2 over five games, Schultz avergaed 155.5 over four games, and Pawski averaged 153.33 over three games while the team scored 2,449 in Baker games for their best Baker score coming in the fifth game at 196.
Clarke bowling will continue their fall schedule next weekend with a trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for their first of three Mid Iowa Bowling Conference events of the season on Oct. 14-15.
