Pride end weekend with road loss to Concordia
SEWARD, Neb. - Closing out their second weekend of action with a Saturday road game to close out the Cattle Classic, the Clarke University men's basketball team dropped a 107-68 game to host Concordia University in Seward, Neb.
The Bulldogs used an overpowering 51-27 first half to run away, specifically by outscoring CU 35-17 in the final 12:28 of the first half after a Jonovan Howard three-point play made it 16-10 with the major Concordia run being a 14-0 run over the next 3:22 that also extended to 27-6 all the way to the 4:43 mark.
In the half, Concordia made 11 of their 25 attempted three pointers with the Pride only hitting 10 triples all game as rebounding was also a significant advantage for the Bulldogs, with the home team outrebounding Clarke 53-37 over the entire 40 minutes including an 18-7 offensive rebounding margin that led to Concordia posting 22 second chance points compared to just five for Clarke.
By the end of the game, the Bulldogs finished with 23 of their 39 makes from the field being three pointers with seven different players hitting multiple triples and three players hitting four with Logan Wilson, MJ Coffey, and Garret Johnson all finishing with 14 points off of their four made threes.
The game's leading scorer, ironically, finished with no three pointers made as Concordia's Brooks Kissinger finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in 26 minutes while going 7-for-13 (53.8%) with the final Bulldogs' player in double figures being Zac Kulus with 11 off the bench.
For the Pride, DeMarco Clayton's 15 points led CU with Joe Brown adding 13 points off the bench for his second out of the last three games in double figures, and Ivan Vukusic produced a 12-point, five-rebound game to end the road trip.
Clarke men's basketball will return home for their next game, also coming in non-conference action, against when they host St. Ambrose University on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Kehl Center for a 7:00 p.m. CT scheduled opening tip between the Pride and Fighting Bees.
