Clarke's Chandler Dean facing up for a jump shot

Pride front court's strong play leads to 75-72 win over Grand View

DUBUQUE, Iowa - For just the second time this season, the Clarke University men's basketball team won two games in a row as they earned a 75-72 win in Heart of American Athletic Conference play over Grand View University on Wednesday night at the Kehl Center.

The Pride used a 45-point second half to make up for a four-point halftime deficit to earn the three-point win over the Vikings behind 47.2 percent (25-53) shooting from the field and 45.5 percent (10-22) shooting from three point range.

All five starters for Clarke played 30 or more minutes in the game as the offensive production was led by the front court duo of Jacob Fierst and Chandler Dean as the pair of juniors combined for 42 points and 17 rebounds. Dean was all over the stat sheet, scoring a career-high 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds while adding a pair of assists and three blocked shots as Fierst scored a game-high 24 points coming off of his first career Heart Player of the Week as he added eight rebounds.

The front court tandem was able to help CU hold an advantage in points in the paint at 28-20 and a slim advantage in rebounds with a 39-37 margin in favor of Clarke. The game may have been more of a runaway for the Pride if their free throws went down more consistently as they finished 15-for-26 (57.7%) from the line including missing seven of their final 10 free throw attempts in the final 55 seconds of the game.

Both Keith Johnson and Jordan Lake reached double figures by the end of the night as Johnson poured in 13 points while adding four rebounds and three assists and Lake finished an assist shy of a double-double ending the game with 10 points and nine assists.

The Vikings had three players finish in double figures led by Ryan Miller's 23 points on just 4-of-15 shooting from the field but he added 13 points from the free throw line. Dallas Bailey had a strong game for Grand View, putting up a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double as he also finished with five steals. Drew Johnson also scored 14 points but struggled from the three point range, finishing 1-of-7 from deep.

Clarke men's basketball will continue their four-game homestand this Saturday when they host MidAmerica Nazarene at the Kehl Center for a 4 p.m. CT scheduled tip.
