Clarke Esports wraps up fall 2021 regular season
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Earlier this month, the Clarke University Esports program's 2021 Fall regular season ended as some look to head into their postseason play and others will transition for the 2022 Spring regular season.
For FIFA 21, the Navy team of Dominic Pedroza finished in 29th place while the Gold team of Maurice Harrison finished in 33rd place. Both teams had a 2-6 record and did not qualify for the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) playoffs.
For NBA 2K21, the Gold team of DeQuincy Young finished in 5th place with a 6-2 record, the Navy team of Anthony Hughes finished in 6th place with a 5-2 record, and the Grey team of Keshawn Murphy finished in 21st place with a 3-5 record. Both the Gold and Navy teams qualified for the ECAC playoffs as the 5th and 6th seed respectively, in a 17-team bracket, which will take place this upcoming weekend.
For Fortnite, the solos competitors earned improved results each week, with Devan Quesada finishing 374th, Jacob Schemmel finishing 613th, and Derryl Meeks finishing 1390th. None of the Solos teams qualified for the PlayVS playoffs with their performances this season.
In duos, the team has also improved their rankings as the season has progressed, with Schemmel and Meeks achieving better scores week after week. The duos team qualified for the ECAC playoffs taking place Thursday, December 2nd.
In Trios, the team of Devan Quesada, Jared Jackson, and Jesus Ortega consistently qualified for both semi-finals in the two PlayVS competitions, but just narrowly missed out on the finals each time.
For Call of Duty, the Gold team of Josiah Nichols, Peter Torres, Devon Wall, Diego Arenas, Dejon Harris, and Khalan Coleman finished in 22nd place and the Navy team of Ried Raisbeck, Samuel Swenor, Jaydon Dennis, and Anthony Hughes finished in 25th place. Both teams had a 3-3 record and did not qualify for the National Association of Collegiate Esports/Collegiate Star League Rivals playoffs.
For Madden 21, all of the teams performed very well in their competitions. In the PlayVS season, the Navy team of Ron Jones finished in 10th place and the Gold team of Dejon Harris finished in 15th place. Both teams had a 5-3 record and qualified for the playoffs as the 10th and 15th seed respectively and if either team wins one match, they are guaranteed to win prize money in the form of scholarships.
In the ECAC season, the Gold team of Kenny Murray finished in 16th place with a 4-4 record, and the Navy team of Dejon Harris finished in 29th place with a 3-5 record. The Gold team qualified for playoffs as the 16th seed, which will start Thursday, December 2nd.
For Apex Legends, the final match of the regular season takes place on Tuesday, December 30th. The Apex Legends team of Alex Schaad, Jorge Alvarado, Jaydon Dennis is not in position to qualify for playoffs but will look to end their season strong in the Apex Spark Series.
"Overall, our teams had great regular seasons and all performed well without having previous competitive esports experiences," Clarke Director of Esports Henry Johnston said. "Many of the post-season qualified teams have good opportunities to win their leagues. We're also excited to be adding Rocket League as a new competitive title for the Spring semester."
